Kai's Fourth

Here are a few pictures of Kai’s little birthday party. The boy on the left is Kai’s best friend, James, and is our neighbour. Kai asked for a chocolate cake. Luckily, the mix included baking instructions for high altitudes.

Kai really liked the transformer versions of Buzz (transforms into a space ship) and Zurg (transaforms into a battle tank), even though he is pulling a face here. He watches Toy Story 2 almost religiously, now he can re-enact it, too.

He was even more happy about the full size Woody and Buzz. Complete with hat, guitar and speech feature. (Sadly, Woody does not say the famous “there’s a snake in ma boot.”) Buzz has his laser, communicator and a energy disk shooting back pack thingie. You probably can easily guess who fought hard for these not too cheap toys on eBay… ;)

Afterwards we went to “Family Reading Night” at school, where Kirin and Kai did arts and crafts, read and won prizes. Back home, Kai wanted his new friends to sleep in his bed of course, even if they are not the snuggliest toys. They did not keep him from sleep at all. Sweet dreams, my big boy.

Prince of Persia!

Oh, those where the times, when Little Guido had the leisure to play games like “Prince of Persia”. Wait a sec, now I have it again! Haha! Well then, see ya in three days or so… ;)

The New Home 4

To the north of our house lies this rocky cliff, where I sometimes sit and contemplate the world. Other than the occasional school bus or a rare airplane, the only noise one can hear up there is the wind. Depending on the weather, it is a quiet rustling of the juniper or a long hissing through the cracks of the eroding sand stone boulders.

At night you can marvel at the oppulence of the firmament. For years I had not seen the Milky Way that brilliant. Jeddito’s few street lights can hardly be compared with the light pollution of the big cities. You barely notice them from up there and a bit further from the bluff you stand in complete darkness.

I labeled the day picture (click to zoom in) to help you orient yourself:

There is a few more town houses to the left, which together with the school premises and the chapter house (a sort of city hall for the settlements of the Navajos) form the town of Jeddito. Right behind our house, or across the main street further below, the wilderness starts.

The two-way satellite dish is what I am using right now to communicate with you. The phone line is al-grotto and there is no cable here. Highway 264 is our sole connection to the outside world (getting the mail, gas, shopping, etc.) and the dog den is the same I wrote about earlier.

Guido's Green Garden, Epilogue

In spite of the unplanned summer drought, some veggies struggled hard and perked up, once I reestablished the water flow. In the end, I was able to harvest some lettuce, turnips and onions or chives (not sure which). The lettuce was hopelessly bitter, but the turnips and chives made good soup vegetables.

Windows Noises

As Oliver can surly elaborate (and will, if you want to or not ;)), windows is a poor creative medium - the other meanings of “poor” included. For the real artists, this is but a short barrier. Rather it becomes part of the art work and expresses his creativity all the more poignant.

The musically inclined readers escpecially, will without doubt know the default Windows application for sound recording: sndrec32.exe. Quite useless for composition, is it not? Not for Clown Staples, the man (or woman) behind this piece of Windows normalcy cum techno flair and Stomp-esque beat.
